Mike Purpus asked for a lighter eps/epoxy version of his beloved, "Big Red" UFO Rocket. He loved that board but it was not lightweight. His primary reason to upgrade was to get a much lighter board for the trip up and down the cliff at his secret spot. As I struggle to get up and down that same hill too, I also asked Jose and team to whip up a super light 9' ultra high performance eps/epoxy swiss army knife of a longboard for me as well. I wanted the ability to ride it as a quad, single fin, and 2+1 which I get with the 4+1 box setup. Because these eps blanks are insanely light, I had it glassed a bit heavier than normal with double 4oz s-glass (instead of single) on the bottom and double 6oz s glass on the deck (instead of 6+4oz). My personal Cheatah weighs 12lbs with Machado quad fins inserted.
I also told Jose that I wanted something that looked like a longboard but weighed near nothing, turned radically, and accelerated like a shortboard. The end result was better than expected. It's called Da Cheatah because it's sleek, hauls butt, and is super easy to ride.
